Wednesday Evening at the Cistern


This is a free event from 5:30 – 7:30 PM open to all attendees wearing their meeting registration badges. Gather in the center of the College of Charleston’s historic campus at the Cistern in front of Randolph Hall for some welcoming remarks to Charleston by the Mayor of Charleston, the Honorable Joseph P. Riley, and also by the Dean of the School of Science & Mathematics at the College of Charleston, and former congressional science fellow for the American Chemical Society (82-83), Dr. Norine Noonan. The cistern, in the front of the College’s original building is surrounded by graceful live oaks and has been used in the feature film “The Patriot” and television mini-series “North-South” as representing a graceful and elegant South. After this gathering, join your friends and acquaintances for dinner at one of the many restaurants (reservations recommended) within walking distance of the conference.

 

Thursday Evening Gala Reception at the South Carolina Aquarium

This is a ticketed event from 7 – 10 PM. Admittance will require both a ticket ($10, purchased in advance) and the wearing of the meeting registration badge. Gala participants will be surrounded by the beautiful aquarium displays inside the building and have a spectacular view of Charleston harbor looking out towards Mt. Pleasant and the Atlantic Ocean. A buffet spread (hand pulled barbeque pork, rotisserie smoked chicken, barbeque sauces, barbeque baked beans, sweat southern coleslaw, fresh fruit and cheese tray, sandwich buns, French bread and butter, iced tea and lemonade - catered by Sticky Fingers), a full bar, and Country Bluegrass music by will round out the evening. Evening Socials

Friday evening is the recommended time for colleges and universities, industries, or businesses to host social events for SERMACS attendees. This should be a great prelude to a dinner with your friends out on the town. If your organization is holding a social, please let us know and we will post it for you on this site. We recommend contacting the individual event sponsor in advance to ask about joining them at their event. Admissions might be limited.
